Update 9/26/06
Yesterday, a gigantic 30-yard dumpster arrived in our driveway. And the permits came through from
the town. This morning, we left two guys named Jimmy upstairs with a work radio, a crowbar,
and a sledgehammer. When we arrived home, the dumpster was nearly full....
Update 9/30/06
On Wednesday, the guys finished the demolition. Below you can see where our new bathroom
will be. They made the call not to tear off the roof on Thursday due to impending rain on
Friday and over the weekend. If the weather looks ok, they will start this on Monday. Our
first two surprises came up. First, the town required an engineer to look at the ridge design,
and he specified a much larger beam than our contractors had anticipated. This will require
extra labor and materials to install. There is also a question on whether we need to upgrade
our electrical service. The week ended quietly, like the lull before the storm...
