updates weeks 4 and 5

Week 4

Slower progress this week. The bedroom window, which we expected to be delivered this week, will be another two weeks, which is delaying the vinyl siding. Also rain during the week slowed the roofing. They did get the dormer rolled roofing installed, and also the back of the house has been completely stripped and re-roofed. They left the front of the house until we get some good weather, hopefully early next week -- but the staging is set up and they are ready to go. No interior work this week.

Nathan also applied the finish to the vanity cabinet, and started prepping for the drawers.

Week 5

On Monday and Tuesday, they got the front of the roof stripped and re-shingled. It looks great!

They got set up and ready to go on the siding, and started applying house wrap and aluminum -- siding to start as soon as our erstwhile window arrives! You can also see that a giant load of blueboard was delivered this week.

Another exciting development was the start of plumbing. They roughed out some of the walls for the bathroom and the waste lines were mostly installed. There were a few surprises when we went to lay out the walls -- the dimensions in the plan were a little off, and also the fiberglass tub pan did not come in the size I specified in the plan. This required some creative brainstorming on the part of our contractors, but it seems we have adapted. We'll end up with a little bigger shower also.

Jen and I also went to look at tile again, since we weren't happy with our original choice once we got some samples home. Jen has her heart set on a blue pearl countertop for the vanity, and when we told Frank the tile guy he knew just the tile for us. We agreed, and it got rave reviews from some family members.

Our ironing center arrived via UPS this week, and we also put in our order for some Danze faucets. If that wasn't enough, my father ordered us some Stallion craftsman style maple doors, to be made in Wisconsin and shipped out to us via common carrier. This turned out to be about the same price as getting doors locally (even with a $600 cross-country shipping charge), and the doors are better quality and shorter lead-time, to boot.

And over the weekend, Nathan built the drawer boxes for the vanity and got a couple coats of finish on them.
